Having installed the load resistor, the "third brake light" blown light warning indicator went off …. I knew this might happen, so I had a 50W / 6 Ohm load resistor ready to install, just in case it did show the "blown indicator. In doing so, i noticed the LED bulb kicked on the dash warning light indicator for a blown bulb, on the rear "third brake light" ( on the dash panel display). I figured doing the low heat LED bulb conversion would be well worth the effort.

My housing to bulb socket in this brake light is still in-tack and not melted to the point I would have to replace the entire "Third brake light" plastic deck housing ( which is expensive in both labor and part replacement). I was made late in my E39 ownership about the heat output of the 27W 1156 bulb, in the rear deck "third brake light" … and how it can eventually melt the main brake light housing ( attached to the rear inside deck lid). I've just switched the 1156 incandescent bulb ( in the rear "third brake light" housing), to a lower heat sprucing LED bulb that matches exactly the color tone and kelvin of the OEM 1156 bulb ( warm white).
